- For the last year, Loreto Community School Milford has been engaged in the Health Promoting Schools initiative. As part of this initiative the committee, consisting of teachers and students in conjunction with Mr Walsh in the P.E. department organised a week of activities to coincide with the European Week of Sport.
- The week kicked off with a night of no written homework. Instead, students carried out physical activities with family or friends. Activities throughout the week in school included an obstacle course competition for 2nd year students, bench ball matches, TY and 4th year Skipathon and a basketball match between Irish and Spanish exchange students. This week also included a heated obstacle course race between teachers and prefects which resulted in a close-run defeat for the teachers but a wonderful start to the term for our new prefect team.
- As part of the Health Promoting Schools campaign, the committee, coordinated by Ms Fitzsimons and Ms MacEoin, have mapped a one kilometre walk around the school grounds to encourage outdoor exercise at lunchtime. This walk was officially launched by the principal Ms. O’Connor with a 5 kilometre relay and has been popular among the students since it’s grand opening.
- The week was a great success with students from every year taking part in various activities concluding with the whole school walking 5 kilometres.
