Home Economics made a substantial contribution to the health and well-being of the whole school community this year in order to support the work of the Health Promoting School Committee. From cookery demonstrations to food pyramid challenge, healthy eating tasks, Junior Certificate practical tasks, diet tracking, sugar free baking and healthy snacks for our school open night to keep us fueled up for the events.Free samples of smoothies were available at lunchtime throughout our Healthy Eating Week. Some students developed a range of healthy, unique and innovative new food products as part of ‘The Future is Food’ Transition Year Unit that was developed by The Taste Council in collaboration with Bord Bia. Transition Year students also experimented with fresh basil, garlic, parmesan, nuts olive oil and sun-dried tomatoes to make fresh basil and sun-dried tomato pesto. LCA Horticulture class kindly provided our 1st year Home Economics class with homegrown pea shoots. They added the pea shoots to healthy chicken goujon wraps.
